Randy Brown’s brainchild, the Ruger American 450 Bushmaster Rifle is a bolt action rifle with unprecedented power, accuracy and lightness. Randy Brown is from Randys Hunting Center in Bad Axe, Michigan and has hunted with us since 2001.
The start to it all was when the state of Michigan passed a law that allowed rifles as long as the caliber was a straight, walled pistol cartridge within a certain specified length. The law required that it is only allowed to be used within a limited firearm zone. Brown immediately knew that hunters would be looking for an alternative to using a shotgun or AR 15.
The new Ruger American Rifle chambered in 450 Bushmaster was conceptualized. After much begging, pleading and more, Brown was eventually able to convince Ruger to manufacture the gun.
In an interview Michigan Out of Doors had with Randy Brown on You Tube, he said the following about the rifle.
“It is extremely reliable, the bolts work terrifically and the gun is fairly economical.
It is the first time any production company has ever made any bolt action in 450 Bushmaster. Ruger is the first and only one. Michigan hunters inspired me to start it because we need that caliber to really better all the hunters down here in the shotgun zone.
We knew that the caliber was extremely accurate, we knew that it had some range to it. But when Ruger built it from the factory it’s just taken off terrifically.
We have 2 models the 16″ model which has got a threaded end on it and then our friends over at Magnaport makes that brake for it and of course there is a cap to cover the thread if you don’t want to have the brake. That’s all it is to take the recoil from a 20 gauge down to about shooting a 410.
It is a very easy gun to shoot and there is hardly any recoil.
I requested it. They are making it.”
