For a father to share a hunting experience with his son or daughter is truly a wonderful experience. The time spend together in nature form bonds and make memories that will last a lifetime.
After experiencing an amazing hunt in 2013 with Richard Mann, he brought his son Bat to hunt with us in 2014. I guided Richard on a very exciting Kudu hunt and he requested for Bat to have a similar experience, with a long stalk etc. I agreed to try my best.
Father and son/daughter safaris are very special to me because I have grown up in the safari industry and learnt to hunt from my father. It creates a special bond between a father and his son/daughter that will last forever. I experienced it firsthand again during this safari.
Richard’s chest just got bigger as Bat made good shots and took nice trophies. For a man who hardly smiles, Richard’s face donned one every day. And to hear him retell the stories with such pride and joy around the camp fire at the end of the day was quite heart-warming. Bat’s warthog hunt was one to remember. While scouting for Kudu, we spotted a warthog grazing at about 800 yards. Unable to see the warthog’s tusks, I decided a closer look was necessary. However, it was in the middle of an open field with little cover. The game plan was that Richard and the tracker would stay on top of the small hillside where we were, while Bat and myself would try to get closer. After a very long walk, we got close enough to see the tusks and realized that our long walk was not in vain. It was worth it to pursue the pig. As we got within 150 yards of the warthog, Bat promptly made an excellent shot from the shooting sticks. What made this hunt noteworthy was that Richard, perched on a hillside, hundreds of yards away, could observe the entire stalk as well as the shot. He described what he observed in detail and more than once. To hear him retell the hunt with such pride for his son, was very special.
Richard you can be very proud of Bat. You are raising an amazing son.
